|||||||||||||||||||||||
A minor in the College of Arts and Science consists of a minimum of 15 hours of course work with at least 6 credit hours at the now GS-2000 or above. Courses used to satisfy the general education and/or basic skills requirements cannot be included in the minor. Nine of the required credits must be taken in residence. Under normal circumstances, the Department of Geological Sciences will not accept credits in Independent Studies as part of the minor. All courses must be taken for a letter grade and a grade of C- or better must be earned in each course. The courses should be selected in consultation with an advisor in the department. Students are advised to take either Principles of Geology (GS-1100) or Environmental Geology (GS-1200), as these courses serve as introductions to geological sciences and are required for most other courses offered by the Department of Geological Sciences. Note that GS-2200 (Oceanography) and GS-2450 (Global Water Cycle) have been certified as Math Reasoning Proficiency (MRP) courses. We request that all students pursuing a minor in Geological Sciences file a form listing their intended coursework with the Director of Undergraduate Studies. A second copy should be filed with the advising office of the appropriate division for the student's major field of study. For additional information on Undergraduate Studies:
