Carol is responsible for a state-of-the-art Perkin Elmer Optima 3300 DV inductively coupled atomic emission spectrometer or ICP-AES that the department procured in 1998. This instrument has been the work horse for the last 6 years capably analyzing aqueous solutions of rocks, sediments, soils and waters. For most elements of the periodic table, it has a dynamic linear range of 10s of parts-per-billion to about 100 parts-per-million, fulfilling the needs of most analytical interests.
