Ken MacLeod traveled to the Kilwa Peninsula in Fall 2003 to core Cretaceous and Tertiary deposits. The sections contain spectacularly preserved foraminifera and the Tanzanian government is interested petroleum exploration.

Ken MacLeod (MU) and Dr. Joyce Singano (Tanzanian Petroleum Development Company) at the ruins of an early 20th century outpost of the German colonial empire in the town of Kilwa Kivinge. The economic peak of the region was in the 13th-14th centuries when it was a major trading center for the Sultanate of Oman. |
