The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Missouri (Mizzou) invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor and Field Camp Director. This position has an anticipated Summer 2023 start, with a mentored participation in this year’s Field Camp. A Ph.D. in geological sciences or a related area is required at time of appointment. The successful candidate will be expected to direct the field camp studies in the summer and teach in spring and fall semesters across the curriculum including introductory courses and others within their expertise. Applicants will be evaluated on their field experience and ability to effectively teach students across the curriculum at the undergraduate level. The Department of Geological Sciences operates the longest continuously running field camp in the United States. Our geology field camp has operated non-stop since 1911 out of our permanent facility, the Branson Field Laboratory in Sinks Canyon (Wind River Range) near Lander, Wyoming. Our field camp is a 6-week, 6-credit field course that teaches a broad array of field methods including geologic mapping, sedimentary facies analysis, surface and groundwater hydrogeology, shallow geophysics, and subsurface basin analysis and correlation. The University of Missouri geology field camp received the 2014 GSA/ExxonMobil Field Camp Excellence Award and is open to both Mizzou and external geology students from across the country. It receives substantial support from the Department’s alumni development board.
