In Memoriam: Raymond Ethington

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Raymond Lindsay Ethington on Thursday, March 19, 2026. Ray joined the faculty at the University of Missouri in 1962, where he built a long and highly respected career in the Department of Geology. A dedicated educator, he taught courses ranging from introductory classes to advanced graduate seminars, and mentored generations of students.

Ray’s research focused on invertebrate paleontology, biostratigraphy, and micropaleontology, and he authored more than 75 publications while contributing regularly to professional conferences. He also played a vital role in the University of Missouri’s Geology Branson Field Laboratory in Wyoming, serving for many years as both faculty member and director. He was named Professor Emeritus in 2000.

His contributions to the department and the broader scientific community leave a lasting legacy. He will be deeply missed, and our thoughts are with his family, colleagues, and all who had the privilege of working with him.
