My research is primarily focused on understanding timescales of magma evolution on young (< 2.5 Ma) basaltic and rhyolitic volcanoes. I use the 40Ar/39Ar* dating technique to improve the eruptive stratigraphy of distribute volcanic fields, and couple this with zircon petrochronology – a combination of morphologic, chemical, and U/Pb age data – to constrain pre-eruptive differentiation and genetic connections of silicic magma bodies. I have worked on the super-eruptions of Yellowstone, the basalts of the Snake River Plain, and the Black Rock Desert basalt-rhyolite field in southern Utah.
