Research Focus

Seismology, Waveform Tomography, Plate Tectonics, Mantle Dynamics

I study the Earth’s crust and mantle using seismic waves generated by earthquakes. This involves investigating seismic velocity structures, seismic anisotropy, and seismic attenuation. By interpreting these properties, I can learn about tectonic processes and mantle dynamics associated with oceanic subduction, continental collision, lithospheric evolution, and intraplate volcanism. My current work focuses on using full-waveform tomography to study the seismic velocity structures of East Asia. The new high-resolution tomography model provides valuable insights into East Asia’s tectonic processes, including the India-Asia continental collision, the upwelling of Hainan Plume, and the subduction of oceanic plates in Southeast Asia and western Pacific.
